Using Google Analytics Tracking

Note: Available to Org admins only.

Analyze user engagement, such as the number of users who visit the site, number of page views, source clicks, device views, and more by including your Google Analytics tracking ID. Tracking on all new or existing campaigns begins once your ID is applied. All donor-facing campaign pages are tracked except for user profiles, forgot/reset password page, terms & conditions, privacy policy, terms of use, and event website pages.

Add your ID

  1. Visit your Org HubCampaigns.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Enter your Google Analytics Tracking number.
  4. Click Save.

Tip: We cannot validate your ID, therefore, we recommended visiting your Google Analytics account to confirm you enter the correct ID and are tracking campaign data.

What is a Tracking ID?

The tracking ID is a string like UA-000000-2. It must be included in your tracking code to tell Analytics which account and property to send data to. The first set of numbers (-000000, in the example above) refers to your account number, and the second set of numbers (-2) refers to the specific property number associated with the account.

Find your Tracking ID and global site tag

  1. Sign in to your Analytics account.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. Select an account from the menu in the Account column.
  4. Select a property from the menu in the Property column.
  5. Under Property, click Tracking Info > Tracking Code.
  6. Your Tracking ID is displayed at the top of the page.

Your global site tag is displayed farther down the page in a text box under Website TrackingGlobal Site Tag.

Don't see a Google Analytics Tracking Code?

If you do not have a Google Analytics Tracking code, then your account has been set up as a GA4 account (which is the new default), and not as a Universal Analytics property.  Follow the steps below to set up a Universal Analytics Property.

Set-Up a Universal Analytics Property in a new account.  

  1. Sign in to your Analytics account.
  2. Click Admin
  3. Select Create Account
  4. Fill in required fields
  5. Click Show Advanced Options
  6. Enable Create Universal Analytics Property
  7. Select any additional, desired options
  8. Click Create

By enabling the Universal Analytics Property in the Advanced Options when setting up the account, it will create a tracking code that can be added to the GiveSmart Org Hub.
